I absolutely loved painting Dhow. There was something about the loose sail, the changing sky and the simplicity of the boat sitting quietly on the shoreline that completely drew me in. I wanted the piece to feel atmospheric and slightly weathered, as though it carried stories from faraway places and long journeys across the sea. It took some courage to trust that the painting needed a brown hue to the sea, but it just works!
The muted tones and soft movement within the sky create a feeling of calm and space, while the lone boat gives the painting a sense of quiet strength and solitude. F
or me, this piece is about freedom, adventure and that pull towards distant horizons that the sea so often brings.
