The Accidental Artist
Elizabeth “Liz” Harwood describes herself as an accidental artist, one led by instinct, colour, and a deep connection to her surroundings.
Liz has become known for her dramatic, storm-filled skies and the glints of light that fight their way through them. There may be darkness and movement, but there is nearly always a glow, a break in the clouds or a pathway of light leading towards something beyond.
That contrast has become an important and recognisable thread throughout her work. Whether she is painting a turbulent sea, a landscape, figures or richly textured florals, Liz is always searching for the light.
Her work evolves organically, shaped by an intuitive response to colour, texture, and the ever-changing natural world.
I wrote a poem some years ago - says it all. Here below.
On returning to the UK, she continued to paint which led to exhibiting her work in private exhibitions across the country.
Her work has also been featured in the press and is now held in private collections across the United States, Mauritius, and Europe.
She is currently represented by Seaview Gallery on the Isle of Wight.
Liz lives in Wiltshire with her Springer Spaniel, Nellie. She draws much of her creative inspiration from long country walks and weekend road trips to remote coastlines in her campervan. Much of her work begins with a feeling rather than a plan, inspired by shifting stormy skies, sea air, conversation, and colour.
Liz still describes herself as an accidental artist, but perhaps the only accidental part was how long it took her to discover what she was meant to do.
Whatever the subject, light emerges from darkness—bringing a sense of comfort and the hope of endless possibilities into your home.

Of open space and open mind
The sable spires in richest colour dive Wildly
flows the artists sweeping stroke And
clashing dancing hues provoke
Of open space and open mind
Inhibition freely cast aside
Whilst wandering captive thoughts aspire
To love lost moments caught in time
Ghostly reverence, times gone by
Lustrous landscapes, thunderous sky
Fragile fragments, blood red walls,
Waves crashing, the mountain’s purple
shadow falls
In winter warmth, summer haze
The artist’s story told in shades
The floral breath of spring inhales
Hope lifts in sunrise, in sunset, sails
Of open heart, and open mind
